WUHO Exhibitions in the News

After a successful opening of Punk Povera at WUHO Gallery on Saturday, January 16, 2016, the show is starting to get the attention of the press and the arts world. The Los Angeles Times has listed Punk Povera in their Datebook where L.A. Times culture editor Carolina A. Miranda recommends current arts and culture events in the city. Punk Povera is also announced in the news section on the SOMA website. SOMA is an organization dedicated to cultural exchange and arts pedagogy that was founded in Mexico City in November 2009.

The WUHO exhibition organized by the Julius Shulman Institute, “Wayne Thom:  Matter, Light, and Form,” has been receiving a lot of attention. A recent article in WIRED highlights the timely relevance of the work that is captured in the photographs of Wayne Thom, featuring late-Modernist and Brutalist buildings of the 70’s and 80’s that have long been overlooked and under appreciated. Described by the exhibition curator, Nicolas Olsberg, as ‘uncompromising’, the work was, according to photographer Wayne Thom, ’the merger of art and science’.  The photographs capture the work dramatically and exquisitely.  “He seems to have an ability to deal with this extraordinary scale and these varied surfaces that I don’t think anybody else had,” says Nicolas Olsberg.
